United States: President Trump is set to meet with his national security team on Tuesday at 1 pm in the White House Situation Room to talk about America’s next steps in the war between Israel and Iran, according to three US officials who spoke with Axios.
What’s at Stake
These officials say Trump is seriously weighing whether to directly join the war by launching a military strike on Iran’s nuclear sites — especially the Fordow facility, a well-protected underground uranium enrichment center.
Urgent Return from G7
Trump cut short his trip to the G7 summit, telling reporters aboard Air Force One that he isn’t looking for a simple “ceasefire.” Instead, he wants a “real end” to the war and to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, according to AXIOS.
Although there have been internal White House talks about a direct meeting with Iranian officials this week, Trump hinted it depends on how things develop after his return to Washington.
What Israel Expects
Two Israeli officials told Axios that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel’s military leadership believe Trump is likely to act soon, potentially by bombing Iran’s underground nuclear site at Fordow. So far, the US has helped Israel with missile defense but hasn’t joined any attack missions.
Vice President Vance Responds to MAGA Pushback
As rumors grow that the US could strike Iran, Vice President JD Vance defended Trump’s approach. In a long post on X (formerly Twitter), Vance said Trump has shown “remarkable restraint,” keeping the military focused on protecting American troops and citizens. However, he added that Trump may act to stop Iran’s nuclear activity for good, as per AXIOS.
Trump’s Online Warnings
Ahead of the big meeting, Trump posted a series of fiery messages on Truth Social:
- Air Dominance – He claimed the US now controls Iranian airspace, saying Iran’s defenses “don’t compare” to American power.
- Threat to Khamenei – Trump warned Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, that the US knows his location. While he said they won’t strike him “for now,” he made it clear that missile attacks on civilians or US troops would cross a line.
- Demand for Iran’s Surrender – In another post, Trump simply wrote: “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER” — a sharp message signaling he may not accept anything less.
