Libby Man Charged After Gun Threat During Divorce Talk

William M. Boaz, a 53-year-old resident of Libby, is facing multiple felony charges including assault with a weapon and criminal endangerment after an alarming incident involving a firearm. Following a heated conversation about divorce with his wife, who had previously petitioned for a protection order, Boaz reportedly became irate, threw objects at her, and menaced her with a handgun while declaring he would not allow the divorce to happen.

According to court documents, the altercation escalated to a point where the woman felt threatened for her life, prompting her to flee to her father’s house. Witness reports include claims of gunfire during the distressing sequence of events. Boaz’s arraignment took place on February 18, and he faces a potential sentence of 30 years in prison and fines exceeding $100,000 if convicted. His next court date is set for March 17.
