Alaska: Red Flag Legislation Introduced in House

Gun Rights

Again this session, a Red Flag bill, House Bill 89, “relating to gun violence protective orders” has been introduced in the Alaska State House. The bill has been referred to the House State Affairs Committee, with a secondary referral to the House Judiciary Committee.

Please contact members of the committee directly by using the Take Action button below and ask them to OPPOSE HB 89.

HB 89 would implement “Red Flag” laws in Alaska that permit the government to seize firearms based on weak and nebulous standards of evidence. If passed, this bill would implement ex-parte hearings that would suspend an individual’s Second Amendment rights without due process. In addition to violating due process, this bill would also require individuals to petition the court for the return of their property once the order has been vacated.
